Archive of Experimental Poetry, not exactly a magazine but...

Another find on the web, as archives go, it feels a bit sparse, though this is perhaps solely the effect of there being so many things listed which do not have links, so searching through the alphabet links one scrolls passed so many words alone, but now and then you find things, here are a few random highlights...

... anyway. There is simply so much stuff out there to look at. I am increasingly diverted from basic life sustaining activities like going to bed early enough to have a brain the next day by browsing through collections like these.

The Bleed, a magazine

The Bleed describes itself as a "journal of vital, progressive visual, concrete and experimental poetries" and hews close to the stark b/w in much if not all of the work here. The 'categories' tab offers; asemic poetry - conceptual poetry - concrete poetry - experimental poetry - lexical poetry - visual poetry… but I note with some amusement that many things are cross listed with multiple categories.

One piece from the series “DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO BE SUBDUED OR VANQUISHED?” by Michael Justin Hatfield is all I will offer as a sample:

differxhost, a magazine to check out

differxhost is a webzine run through Scribd.com showing almost entirely vispo in broad orientation though there is an essay by Marco Giovenale "On Asemic and Vispo" which might complicate that if one accepts the nomination and concepts in play there (I'm not sure I do, but, whatever). Dunno how long it has been in operation, but one can work through all the material there in less than an hour I'd guess (depending how much 'close looking' you do).  As it hasn't gotten very expansive yet, I'll make do with just one panel from David-Baptiste Chirot's "Killer Chrome" as a sample of the work (I tend to like D-B.C's work anyway, but this is pretty great, also one of my favorite things at differexhost):

nokturno.org

Another webzine that has been diverting me some of late is nokturno.org.

The wealth of sound poetry (and in so many languages) visual poetry, video poems, kinetic poems, flash animated poems is awesome. Here are some by no means definitive selections (there is so much to go through);

Jonimatti Joutsijärvi's set of 7 visual pieces called "Lapaluu" of which this is the final one;

Marton Koppany & Jukka-Pekka Kervinen's short movie "Prophesy"

Dirk HuelsTrunk: Sound poems. Which do some great stuff, I really like Nie and the cover of Hugo Ball's Wolken is wonderful too.

J.P. Sipilä's video poem "you knew this"

Maria Mencia's "Linnut laulavat toisten lintujen lauluja" (per google translator: "Birds sing songs of other birds)." Which has an interesting interface, with 10 tracks one can select to start and stop - each having a animated textual as well as audio component.

Christian Bök is present with many files from a variety readings.

Jelena Glazova's "Re-Start" videopoem (another here);

My language limitations get in the way of saying much about many of the audio things available here, but surely there is a lot to look at, listen to, etc.

ZSWOUNDS - worth checking out!

I've just discovered ZSWOUND where I read

  • ZSWOUND is dedicated to heteroglossia, mixed speech, hybridisation, distortion, glossolalia, linguistic mestizaje, slang, frontier-words, pop translation, dysfunctional or diverted translation, stolen languages, zaoum, automatically generated texts, LOLpo, fous du langage, untranslatable works, invented languages, erasure, kinetics, spam and many other venimous TlaOngues. ZSWOUND is minimalist, selective, dystopic, unpredictable...

& I'm jazzed by the many tangents, provoked, so I start scrolling it & find lots of cool stuff, like [Re]Cuts by Eduardo Navas;

... info about the wonderful R.Mutt Sticker Project (notable in it's own right);

.... Alejandro Taliano's - Dewriting works, for instance this one;

.... which is called, Conditioned Reflexes and Inhibitions / page 81
_dewriting and simultaneousm of the Ivan Pavlov´s investigation
_spanish pronunciation voice: Alejandro Taliano
_2009
… This info makes me want to know more… is there a recording of this somewhere? If so, I cannot find it on the site. I like some of the handwritten ones very much too.

This lovely thing;

...which is;
UN COUP DE DÉS JAMAIS NABOLIRA LE HASARD (MUSIQUE)
Michalis Pichler, 2009

all the text of Stéphane Mallarmé's poem of the same name is cut out and played on an automatic piano [here is a look at the score]

instrument: Pianola Metrostyle Themodist
The Aeolian Company, NY 1910
location: Musikinstrumenten-Museum Berlin
Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung Preußischer Kulturbesitz
camera & sound engineering: Michael Otto
sound assistance: Misaki Kawabe, Nick Thurston

& then there is work by Broodthears, Rauschenberg's erased de Kooning, Homovisual Translation, Typography movies and much else.

Spaltung

Below is the call for work for the APG's magazine, Spaltung (in case you missed it somewhere else):

do your poems contain multitudes or live as variously as possible? then submit to Spaltung. we are looking for writing that explores multiplicity/heterogeneity on a formal/material/compositional level, including (without limitation) polyphonic/multivoice works, collaborations (human+human, human+computer, human+other animate or inanimate entity, and all of the above), text+image, text+object, text+sound, palimpsests, multiversion/multirevision works, diagrammatical works, rebuses, multilanguage pieces, collages, mashups, multiprocedural and conceptual works, poems masquerading as something else, und so weiter. Spaltung will be published as a packet of stuff rather than a bound journal. if you would like an idea of Spaltung's taste, you can purchase our first issue (although it was not focused on the theme articulated above and was a bound journal) through the email address below (it's only $4).

please send submissions to spaltung@comcast.net. please make sure all attachments are in one of the following formats: .doc, .xls, .pdf, .jpg, or in the case of sound files .mp3. if you want to send in another format, please let us know and we will try to accommodate. if you prefer to send snail mail, please send to

Bo and Luke Duke Sanders
1511 McLendon Ave.

Atlanta, GA 30307

please keep submissions to a reasonable length, and no more than 5 pieces per submission. please include your email address in any submission so that we can contact you (if you don't have an email address, please include a phone #, we're trying to save postage and time). if you wanna include an explanation of your work with your submission, great. simultaneous submissions are fine, just let us know if something you sent gets accepted somewhere else. if you send by snail, don't send us your only copy: we do not return work.

Spaltung is edited collectively by the Atlanta Poets Group. because we do things by committee we may take a while to get back to you on your submission. authors appearing in Spaltung will receive copies, but we can't afford to pay you anything else.
